Sharing the Joy in 2016

Valley Freightliner’s employee-funded Share the Joy program has provided clothing, personal items, and gifts to local school children during the Holiday Season since 1990. In 2016, over 25 volunteers gathered to shop, wrap and deliver gifts to 22 families consisting of 66 children who otherwise would not have gifts to celebrate.

The Share the Joy program leaders work with local school administrators to make the biggest impact for families who need assistance. The selected families then submit wish and need lists often containing items such as warm clothing, coats, personal items as well as games and toys. Once the lists are collected, volunteer shoppers take to the stores and make purchases to best fit the needs of the children.

With the support of the Gordon Family, employee volunteers hosted summertime barbeques and events throughout the year to raise the funds to support the program. For the 30th Anniversary of Valley Freightliner, a lofty goal was set to make this event bigger than the past year and that goal was achieved! With the help of customer contributions at events, enough funds were raised to support 34 additional children during the 2016 season.

“Thank you to all of our volunteers who worked hard to make Share the Joy 2016 a success,” said Virginia Gordon. “We have been grateful for the opportunity to help our community year after year and we’re excited to continue the program in 2017.”

The Share the Joy team is already preparing for 2017 as 10 of the company’s 12 locations become Freightliner Northwest!
